How do I create a chapter of Sigma Theta Psi, Inc at my school?
We encourage you to work with your college/university Greek Life Advisor to create goals in creating a new organization at your campus. Most Greek Life Faculty will encourage you to create an interest group, investigate possible advisors, and create a constitution.
Then contact our expansions director to request an interest packet. The interest packet contains all the pre-requisites for founding a chapter including a application. Once you have an organized interest group you can request a presentation from Sigma Theta Psi, Inc.
How long does it take to create a chapter?
It can take anywhere from two months to two semesters depending on how organized the interest group and how quickly the chapter can get recognized by its campus.
What are the requirements for founding a chapter?
The interest group should have at least ten members. The interest group should have an faculty advisor. Every member of the interest group should be in good academic standing. Each member of the interest group must submit an application, two letters of recommendation, a faculty letter, transcripts and statement of community involvement. The interest group should also submit a interest letter stating how their group will add to our organization and incorporate the national philanthropy.
What is the relationship between the National Board and the Chapters?
Each chapter reports to a regional . A regional representive reports back to the National Executive Board on how each chapter is performing including but not limited to:
- Academic standing of all active members
- graduating Alumni statistics and field
- Philanthropy goals and achievements
- bank statements and receipts for incorporation
- any maters for the National Judicial Board
- Multicultural Event Report
- All Socials, Fundaisers, Community Events
- Any concerns the chapter has for the board
